About this tool

  2. Choose Allow on the browser permission prompt.
  3. Check the live preview, resolution, and frame rate.
  4. Click Stop when you're done.

Common uses

Checking a webcam before a meeting or interview, confirming a new or external camera works, framing your shot and lighting, or troubleshooting a black screen. Pairs with the microphone and speaker tests to check your whole call setup.

Frequently asked questions

How do I test my webcam?

Click Start and allow camera access. A live preview appears along with the resolution and frame rate, so you can confirm the camera works and check the picture quality before a call or recording.

Is the video recorded or uploaded?

No. The preview is shown only in your browser. Nothing is recorded, saved, or sent to any server — the video stays on your device.

I see a black screen — what's wrong?

Check that you allowed camera permission, the lens cover or privacy shutter is open, and no other app (like a video call) is using the camera. Closing other apps that hold the webcam usually fixes it.

How do I allow camera access?

When you start the test, choose Allow on the browser prompt. If you blocked it before, click the camera icon in the address bar or open site settings, set the camera to Allow, and try again.

What do the resolution and frame rate mean?

Resolution is the pixel size of the camera feed (like 1280 × 720), and frame rate is how many frames per second it delivers. Higher numbers mean a sharper, smoother picture. The frame rate is measured live from the actual video stream.

Why is the preview mirrored?

By default the preview is flipped like a mirror, which feels natural on a selfie camera. Use the Un-mirror button to see the true, un-flipped image.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. On phones it uses the default camera; allow access and the live preview, resolution, and frame rate appear just like on desktop.
