About this tool
This free online dead pixel test fills your screen with solid colors so you can spot faulty pixels on any monitor, laptop, phone, or TV. Cycle through white, black, red, green, blue and more, and look for any dot that doesn't match — a dead pixel stays black, a stuck pixel shows a fixed color, and a hot pixel stays white. It runs entirely in your browser.
How to use
- Click a color (or Start full-screen test) to fill the screen.
- Look closely across the whole display for pixels that stand out.
- Click, tap, or press the arrow keys to move to the next color.
- Press Esc or Exit when you're done.
Common uses
Checking a new monitor, laptop, or phone before the return window closes, inspecting a second-hand screen before buying, or diagnosing a suspicious dot you've noticed. For testing other display qualities like color and sharpness, a full monitor test complements this one.
Frequently asked questions
How do I test for dead pixels?
Pick a color to fill the whole screen, then look closely for any pixel that doesn't match. Cycle through the full set of colors — white, black, red, green, blue and more — because a bad pixel usually only stands out against certain colors.
What's the difference between a dead, stuck, and hot pixel?
A dead pixel never lights up, so it stays black on every color. A stuck pixel is frozen on one sub-pixel color (often red, green, or blue) and shows that color regardless of what's displayed. A hot pixel is always fully on, staying white. Cycling colors makes each type easy to spot.
Why cycle through several colors?
A pixel stuck on green is invisible on a green screen but obvious on red, black, or blue. Solid black reveals hot/stuck pixels, and solid white reveals dead ones. Testing every color is the only reliable way to find them all.
How do I move between colors?
In full-screen mode, click or tap anywhere, press the arrow keys, or use the on-screen arrows to change color. Press Esc or the Exit button to leave the test.
Can I fix a stuck pixel?
Sometimes. Stuck (not fully dead) pixels can occasionally be revived by rapidly cycling colors over that spot, or by gently massaging the area with a soft cloth while the screen is on. There's no guarantee, but it's worth a try before assuming the panel is faulty.
Does it work on phones and TVs?
Yes. It works on any screen that can open this page in a browser — laptops, monitors, phones, tablets, and smart TVs. On phones, tap to change color; the full-screen fill covers the whole display.
Is anything uploaded or installed?
No. It's a pure in-browser test that just fills the screen with colors — nothing is uploaded, saved, or installed.
