Speaker Test
Test speakers and headphones — play left, right, and stereo test tones to check each channel.
Play a test tone through each channel and listen for it in the correct speaker. If the left tone comes out of the right speaker, your channels are swapped.
Tip: turn your volume to a comfortable level first. Use headphones to check left/right precisely.

About this tool
This free online speaker test plays test tones through the left, right, or both channels so you can check your speakers and headphones in the browser. It confirms both channels work and helps you catch swapped left/right wiring, crackle, or a dead side. It uses the Web Audio API — no install and no microphone needed.
How to use
- Set your volume to a comfortable level.
- Press Left and confirm the tone plays from the left speaker.
- Press Right and confirm it plays from the right.
- Press Both to hear a centered stereo tone.
Common uses
Checking new speakers or headphones, confirming your audio output before a call or a movie, diagnosing a silent or crackling channel, or verifying that left and right aren't reversed after changing cables. Pairs with the microphone test to check both sides of your audio setup.
Frequently asked questions
How do I test my speakers?
Press Left, Both, or Right to play a test tone through that channel and listen for it in the matching speaker. It's the quickest way to confirm both speakers work and that the left and right channels aren't swapped.
How do I check for swapped left/right channels?
Play the Left tone and confirm it comes only from your left speaker, then the Right tone from your right. If they're reversed, your cables, audio settings, or headphones are wired backwards.
Why do I hear nothing?
Check your system and browser volume aren't muted, the correct output device is selected, and your headphones or speakers are connected. Some browsers also need a click before they play audio — pressing a button provides that.
What tone does it play?
A clean 440 Hz sine wave (the musical note A) for about 1.4 seconds. A steady, pure tone makes it easy to hear crackle, distortion, or a dead channel.
Should I use headphones or speakers?
Both work. Headphones make it easiest to pinpoint the left and right channels precisely. Speakers are fine for a general 'are they working' check.
Can it damage my speakers or ears?
The tone plays at a moderate level, but always set your volume to a comfortable level before testing, especially with headphones. Turn it down if it's too loud.
Does it record anything?
No. It only generates sound in your browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is recorded, and it doesn't use your microphone.
