About this tool

This free PDF metadata viewer and editor lets you inspect, change, or remove the hidden properties embedded in any PDF — title, author, subject, keywords, creator app, and producer library. Everything runs in your browser with no upload, keeping your documents private. The modified PDF is reconstructed locally and downloaded directly to your device.

How to use

  1. Drop a PDF file onto the uploader or click to browse.
  2. Click Read Metadata to display all stored properties.
  3. Edit any field directly, then click Save changes to download the updated PDF.
  4. Or click Clear all metadata to remove every field at once.

Why PDF metadata matters

Every PDF stores metadata alongside its content. Documents created in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat often carry the author's name, the original filename, the software version, and sometimes internal network paths. Before sharing a PDF externally — especially with clients or the public — stripping or correcting this metadata is good practice for both privacy and professionalism.

Frequently asked questions

How do I view PDF metadata?

Drop a PDF file onto the tool and click Read Metadata. All editable properties — title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer — are shown along with the creation and modification dates.

How do I edit PDF metadata?

After reading the metadata, click on any field and type the new value. When you're done, click Save changes to download a new PDF with the updated properties.

How do I remove all metadata from a PDF?

Click the 'Clear all metadata' button at the top of the metadata panel. This blanks every editable field (title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer) and gives you a clean PDF to download.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. All metadata reading and writing happens in your browser using pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device, so it's safe for private or confidential documents.

Why would I remove PDF metadata?

Metadata can reveal the author's name, the software used to create the document, internal folder paths, and the original creation date. Removing it is a good privacy practice before sharing a PDF externally.

What metadata fields can I edit?

Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator (the application that created the document), and Producer (the library or tool that generated the PDF). Creation and modification dates are shown read-only.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The tool is fully responsive and runs locally, so you can view and edit PDF metadata on a phone or tablet without installing anything.
