Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the net amount by the VAT rate and divide by 100 to get the VAT, then add it to the net for the gross. For 100 at 20%, VAT is 20 and the gross is 120. This calculator does it instantly.
How do I remove VAT from a gross price?
Divide the gross amount by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. For 120 at 20%, the net is 120 ÷ 1.20 = 100 and the VAT is 20. Switch to Remove VAT to do this automatically.
Is this VAT calculator free?
Yes — it's a completely free online VAT calculator with no sign-up, and it works at any rate.
Can I use it for GST or sales tax?
Yes. The math is the same as GST and percentage-based sales tax, so just enter your local rate.
Which VAT rates are included?
You can type any rate, and quick buttons cover common ones (5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20%). Many countries use 20%, but rates vary, so check yours.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser with no upload.
