About this tool

This free online background remover tool makes a chosen background color transparent — entirely in your browser, no upload, no AI service. Drop an image, click the background color you want to erase, adjust the tolerance, and download a transparent PNG.

How to use

  1. Drop or choose an image (PNG recommended, but any format works).
  2. Click the background color on the image to sample it.
  3. Adjust the tolerance slider if needed — higher removes more surrounding shades.
  4. Click Remove Background, then download the transparent PNG.

When to use it

This tool works best with images that have a solid or near-solid background — product photos on white, logos on flat colors, or icons with a uniform background. For complex backgrounds with detailed edges, a dedicated AI background removal tool or photo editor will give better results.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. All pixel processing is done in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device.

How does the tolerance slider work?

Tolerance controls how similar a pixel's color must be to the sampled background color before it is made transparent. A low tolerance removes only very close matches, while a higher tolerance removes more of the surrounding colors that may shade or blend into the background.

Why must the output always be PNG?

PNG supports transparency (alpha channel). JPEG and WebP-with-lossy-encoding do not preserve transparency, so this tool always saves as PNG to ensure the transparent areas are retained.

Can I remove a white background from an image?

Yes. Drop the image, click anywhere on the white background area, and click Remove Background. Increase the tolerance if some white shading is left behind.

What happens if I click the wrong color?

Just click again on the correct area before pressing Remove Background. The sampled color updates with each click, so you can re-pick as many times as you need.

Can I use this to make a logo with a transparent background?

Yes. If the logo has a uniform background color (white, black, or a single solid color), drop the logo file, click the background, adjust tolerance, and click Remove Background to export a transparent PNG.

What image formats can I drop?

PNG is recommended because it is lossless, but you can also drop JPG, WebP, GIF, or BMP. The output will always be a transparent PNG.
